Brutal Sales Tally
Two weeks ago, I penciled in Brutal Legend as a “potential classic”. I was trying not to jump to conclusions about a demo that exposed its gameplay, since similar criticisms were leveled at Arkham Asylum. As it turned out, word of mouth surged in favor of Uncharted 2, a game that should shed Naughty Dog’s label as the most underrated game developer of the modern era.
After posting some of the strongest reviews of the year…a lot was expected of [Uncharted 2] and it did not disappoint. With week one sales of over 830,000 units it becomes the 5th fastest-selling PS3 title to date…
Brutal Legend? Real-time strategy and console gaming? That works about as well as Jiu-Jitsu in a boxing match.
Brutal Legend sold over 200,000 units this week (PS3 and Xbox360) – solid sales but slightly below expectations…
Know that look your buddy gives you when you promise to meet him for lunch, only to show up two hours late and explain your buddies needed a fourth for Arranged Team? Electronic Arts wants a word with the gaming community.
Bobby Kotick has proven such an asshat that it’s difficult to remember how despised Electronic Arts was. After Spore was pirated 750 trillion times, the company promised to change its strategy. So far, the most notable results are Mirror’s Edge, Dead Space, and Brutal Legend. All three of those games sold poorly. You got a set of games that were designed to combat the monotony of sequels, and will now only profit through sequels. Ain’t it special?
